Today is filled with absolutely nothing but the mundane everyday tasks of preparing for a a road trip. Exciting stuff! Packing, picking up snacks, oil change, laundry, last minute cleaning, arrangments for petcare...you know the drill.
For whatever reason, I'm not bursting at the seams to begin this trip. 15 hours in the car with a 5 year old and a 4 year old.....could this be the reason?
Really, the kids usually surprise us on the way up and are rather joyous and entertaining. It's always fun to watch them get excited about something and traveling to Missouri to see all their grandparents will totally do that to them. They've been counting down the days since Monday (when we finally let them know we were actually taking the trip....too early notice creates nothing but endless questions as to when we are leaving...I can handle a week of the questions but not more). They love the idea that they get to watch tv in the car. We don't get the portable DVD player out and installed in the car unless we are going on a serious roadtrip. They are also esctatic over the endless stops at McDonald's (inside trips...not just zipping thru the drivethru) and the free for all on the snacks in the car. I try to keep them as happy and content as possilbe .... you have to do that when you're traveling 15 hours with children. So pretty much anything goes. They usually call the shots and we let them because that's what keeps us all sane. So unless they are in direct danger...we will stop at McDonald's and play in the germ infested playground as much as they so desire. If they want to eat 3 bags of grapes and dip their carrots in ketchup while we trek through Oklahoma....well then alright. You say you want to listen to the Wiggles CD for the 18th time in a row.....Sure, why not? I can handle listening to Greg, Murray, Anthony & Jeff for 15 hours....what I can not stand is constant bickering and preschool unpleasantries......for 15 hours. What do you think?
