parker is 7 weeks old today. 7 weeks means the dude needs to start learning how to sleep in his crib.
this is the way we roll.....
naps...he sleeps in his swing...bad habit i know but he loves it and he will nap for 1.5-2.5 hours in that baby. gotta love that.
bedtime....he sleeps with us...bad habit i know but i love it and i will sleep for 2.5-3.5 hours that way. (exception....last 3 nights he has slept in the swing next to our bed w/out it turned on because he's been congested and practically drowns if he is laying flat)
with brooklyn i discovered Secrets of the Baby Whisperer and loved it. unfortunately, we never got brooklyn out of our bed but the bones of the book was good and helped us w/ her feeding and napping schedule. so i've referred to it w/ parker as well. i figured today would be a good day to start him napping in his crib. so i headed to the BW website to refresh. here's how we managed.
morning nap....non-existant. course i was trying to bath the older 2 children, wash tball uniforms and bake a cake at the same time so my endurance was a little weary to say the least. the book says to have a "wind down routine" typically a little cuddle time and then swaddle the dude up and put him in his crib while he is still awake. then you lean over the crib and pat his back in a rythmic "tick-tock" beat while "shhhh-ing" a long shhhh their ear. and you do this for 7-10 minutes while they are still and staring into space. then you cut out the shhh-ing and continue patting for another 10 minutes for a total of 20 minutes until they reach their deep sleep. apparently the key is staying the entire 20 minutes w/ them...and they explain in better detail in the book and on the website why this works....and how after they are 3 months old you do some sort of gradual wean so they end up putting themselves to sleep. i haven't gotten that far yet obviously since parker isn't even 2 months old yet. so anyway, the first time around i couldn't get him down. we tried for 1.5 hours and he just got in and out of sleep. so it was time to eat again. and then after back to bed. this time i got to be in there the whole 20 minutes and it toally worked. he slept for over an hour this time and did great. so we'll keep on it and hopefully he'l be sleeping in his crib like a champ in a few days.
we're off to tball games this afternoon. the kids are actually looking forward to it now. cool.
